Booking an Exam with the British Council

For Candidates of the University of London

Step 1: Download a copy of your examination entry form from the University of London Student Portal here
Step 2: Submit 2 copies of your examination entry form, at the British Council office of your choice (Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt) with your bank draft issued to British Council.

Step 3: Receive your validation code after completing your payment.

Step 4: Complete your registration on the University of London Student Portal 

Please note that the deadline set by the University of London is also the deadline for registration with the British Council.

For Candidates from Other UK Institutions

You can book for an exam in three simple steps:

Step 1: Confirm with your examination body/exam officer of your institution that you can sit for your Exam with the British Council.

Step 2: Send an email request to exams.nigeria@ng.britishcouncil.org stating: Name of institution, preferred date of exam and location (Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt). You will receive a confirmation within 3 days.

Step 3: After you receive a booking confirmation, please make your payment within 5 days by banker’s draft addressed to British Council.See fees below.

Attention to all Exam officers of Institutions: If your institution will be paying the administrative charges, we will invoice you at the end of the exams. Please email exams.nigeria@ng.britishcouncil.org for the charges.

For Candidates from Institutions outside the UK

You can book for an exam in three simple steps:

Step 1: Confirm with your examination body/exam officer of your institution that you can sit for your Exam with the British Council.

Step 2: Send an email request to exams.nigeria@ng.britishcouncil.org stating: Name of institution, preferred date of exam and location (Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt). You will receive a confirmation within 3 days.

Fees

British Council charges a fee of NGN 17, 000 per subject for administering your exams and for sending your scripts via courier to your institution within the UK.

For Entrance Examinations into sixth form colleges and other UK schools, we will charge a flat rate of NGN 17,000 per candidate. Please note: For Headington School and Oundle School Entrance Exams, we will charge a flat rate of N34,000 per candidate.

If your institution is outside the UK, the fee is NGN 26, 000 per subject for administering your exams and for sending your scripts via courier to your institution.

Payment

Payment is made by bank draft, drawn from any of the existing Nigerian banks, payable to ‘British Council’. Important: you will not be allowed to write the exam unless you have paid the fees.

Refunds

Please refer to our Examinations Refund Policy.

At the exam

Please bring the following with you to your exam session:

  • Identification such as ID book or passport
  • Statement of entry
  • Pens, pencils in a CLEAR bag
  • Basic calculator

Electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, etc… are not allowed.

Results

Most universities will send your results directly to you. University of London results are issued three to four months after the exam is taken and will be sent via registered mail to you by the relevant British Council office.

The British Council and the examining boards take all reasonable steps to provide continuity of service. We feel sure you will understand, however, that we cannot be held responsible for any interruptions caused by circumstances beyond our control. If examinations or their results are disrupted, cancelled or delayed, every effort will be made to resume normal service as soon as possible. The British Council’s liability will be limited to the refund of the registration fee or retesting at a later date.
