J4A How to improve treatment of suspects

You can improve the treatment of suspects at police stations by introducing a free legal advice scheme

The public have a poor perception of the police and the lack of transparency and accountability in the treatment of suspects has affected public confidence. By introducing a Legal Advice Scheme you can ensure suspects and victims have access to free legal advice and support. J4A worked with the Nigerian Police Force to pilot such a scheme in Lagos and this guide provides details of the approach used and lessons learned.

Please download our how to guide and tools on how to introduce a free legal aid scheme, we hope you find them extremely useful.

Good luck in implementing this worthwhile Initiative. If you have any queries please contact us.
