Film Connections, an exciting new initiative from the British Council seeks to create a bridge between the British and Nigerian Film Industries.
The UK and Nigeria are world leaders in film production but with broadly distinct approaches – the Nigerian sector is unparalleled in its sheer commercial mindedness with an enviable share of its home market and high turnover. The UK has a robust studio industry, world leading VFX innovators and its art house and independent cinema tradition is renowned. Film Connections aims to explore what these two industries take from each other’s approaches, and how the next generation of film entrepreneurs in each country can develop alongside one another.
The Film Connections Programme at AFRIFF included screenings, workshops and film industry networking sessions. The programme was curated by Nadia Denton and the UK phase of Film Connections will be curated by Ikenna Ezenyirioha.
