This presentation will explore a recent filmmaking project between the University of Portsmouth, UK (UoP) and the Lagos State University (LASU) which focused on best practice in course design for teaching Film Production skills.  This project was in direct response to a report on Creative Education and Skills in Nigeria commissioned by the British Council.

In June 2018, two academics from the Department of Theatre Arts and Music at LASU attended a two-week tailor-made exchange experience at the University of Portsmouth where they received practical filmmaking workshops in pre-production, shooting techniques and video editing, culminating in the production of a short film “A Stroll Downtown”

In addition, this collaborative project helped to shape a curriculum for delivering film production skills which could be tailored to local needs and resources - the Train the Trainer Toolkit.

At this event,we will share with you all of our experiences of the project,  the approach to teaching industry-standard Film Production skills in the UK, and officially launch the Train the Trainer toolkit.
