Next Generation Nigeria is a project of the British Council with co-funding from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). As part of the Next Generation series, it follows similar British Council Next Generation projects in Tanzania, South Africa, Pakistan and Kenya in researching the perceptions and aspirations of young people in countries experiencing youth bulges; producing recommendations for improved policies to capitalise on the potential of the next generation; and giving a voice to young people as they attempt to shape their countries’ future. The project combines policy-relevant research with a strategic communications campaign to disseminate the findings widely and use them to enhance young people’s ability to influence the policy environment.
Next Generation Nigeria, in particular, seeks to:
- Understand the economic aspirations, challenges and lived realities for young people in Nigeria.
- Engage young people strategically in national and regional dialogue on these aspirations and expectations.
- Use research evidence to support informed policy-making and policy change geared at young people’s economic opportunities and voice.
