World Teachers’ Day, a UNESCO initiative, was first held in 1994 and today is celebrated in more than 200 countries worldwide.
Historically, this annual initiative aims to acknowledge the contribution teachers make to society, address the global teacher shortage and improve the quality of teaching.
This year's slogan is ‘Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers’.
At British Council, we want to use the opportunity to recognise the importance of education by thanking teachers around the world - and those in the wider education profession - for their work.
This year, we are celebrating the World Teachers Day in 3 unique ways;
- Free Webinars for Teachers - We are hosting free global #WorldTeachersDay webinars to help teachers gain practical tips for teaching in classroom. You can join the webinar via this link Free Webinars
- World Of Thanks Stories - Because we believe that every teacher had or has a teacher, we also appreciate the positive impact that teacher educators have on the work that teachers do. Therefore, we reached out to teachers from different schools and encouraged them to share their inspiring stories about a creative and inspirational teacher that impacted them and how this has influenced the way they teach today. We received amazing and interesting entries from all the teachers who participated. But five of these stories were considered outstanding. Below are the list of teachers with the outstanding stories.
- Thank You Teacher Campaign - We asked students on our Facebook and Twitter platforms to tell us about their favourite teacher that most inspired them. You can join the conversation using the hashtag #ThankYouTeacher
