Express Entry
Express Entry is an online system used by the government of Canada to manage immigration applications. You can apply if you fit into one of three different programs:
1. Canadian Experience Class
2. Federal Skilled Worker Program
3. Federal Skilled Trades Program
Read more about the different programs on the Government of Canada’s immigration website here.
Applicants can create a profile which is scored on a points-based system before entering an Express Entry pool. Points are based on your skills, education, language ability, work experience and other factors including but not limited to age, whether you have a spouse and whether you have arranged employment. Read more about how points are calculated on the Canada immigration website.
Care worker program
If you are a qualified caregiver, you can apply to become a permanent resident in Canada or work in the country temporarily. As of 31 March 2025, new immigration pilots have been launched for home care workers. These pilots aim to make it easier for those who help nurture children and provide support to senior citizens or people living with disabilities, to become permanent residents and find work in Canada.

Post-graduate work permit
If you have graduated from a designated learning institution in Canada, you may be able to apply for a post-graduate work permit. Visit the Government of Canada website to check if the institution you have graduated from or plan to study at is on the list of designated learning institutions – click here. You need to have completed the study program and maintained full-time status as a student in Canada, unless you took approved leave from your studies or studied part-time only in your final semester.
Be sure to apply for your post-graduate work permit as soon as you can. Your IELTS results will be a critical part of your application, as proof of English language skills is required for those who graduated with a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or doctoral degree from a university in Canada.
